Satguru Prem

Guru Ramdas Ji had three sons, eldest was Prithia and the youngest one was Guru Arjandev Ji Maharaj. Of his three sons, the youngest was his favorite and obedient. In yonder days, people would come and invite Guru to attend family functions and they too would oblige.

In the same manner once, a family from Lahore visited Guru Ramdas Ji in Amritsar and invited him to attend a family wedding. Guru Ramdas Ji was busy and instead offered the services of his youngest son Arjandev Ji. He ordered his youngest son to accompany the family and attend the festivities and also to hold regular satsang’s. Guru Arjandev Ji like an obedient Sikh left his hometown. However, Guru Ramdas Ji requested him not to come back until and unless he himself calls him back from Lahore.

Soon the festivities were over, weeks and months went by. A true Sikh and a premi can never stay away from his Guru. He will die if he does so. For him, his Guru is everything – his life and soul! Guru Arjandev Ji never doubted his father, so held his urge to return home. However, he could not help feeling lonely and desperate without his Guru’s darshan. In those days, there were no emails or postal service either. Messages if any were sent along with someone who would be heading that way.

Guru Arjandev Ji too in his virah for his Satguru wrote a few verses and decided to send them as a message. He penned them down on a piece of paper and handed it over to a sewadar visiting Amritsar. He numbered it as well. He instructed the sewadar to hand over his personal message to his Guru Ramdas Ji.  read more »

Sharan - Surrender

These saakhi’s (anecdote) has been repeated several times during Satsang’s, and yours truly is tempted to quote it here on this community. These saakhi related to Sikh Guru’s were quoted by our Masters as an example for various tenets of Sant Mat.

First Saakhi relates to the fourth Sikh Guru Ramdas Ji Maharaj, who was son-in-law of the third Sikh Guru Amardas Ji Maharaj. Guru Amardas Ji was quite old (sixty-two years) when he came in presence of a Guru himself. He became successor when he was in his seventies!

When Guru Amardas Ji decided to construct a well for water (Baoli in Punjab – this has steps leading to the water area), Guru Ramdas Ji ignored all and indulged in the same mitti-ki-sewa as others. He too carried basket full of earth. His own relatives who visited him during this time admonished him for doing menial sewa in his father-in-law’s house!

Guru Ramdas Ji who was also related to Guru Amardas Ji (as his son-in-law) shifted residence and stayed with him. He along with his wife took great care in the form of personal needs of their Guru and father. However, this was not taken in good spirit amongst his relatives. Even as of today, nobody appreciates a son-in-law who indulges in service of his father-in-law. Ignoring all banter and insults, Guru Ramdas Ji carried about his duties with love and respect towards his Guru.  read more »

Lord Balarama - Elder brother to Lord Krishna

August 28th 2007 is celebrated as the Appearance Day of Lord Balarama in
India. Devotees fast till noon and then have a feast to celebrate.

Its also the beginning of the second month of Caturmasya and fasting from
Yogurt for 1 month.

Who is Lord Balarama?
*****************

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is the fountainhead of all
incarnations.

Lord Balarama is His second body. They are both one and the same identity.
They differ only in form.

Balarama is the first bodily expansion of Krishna, and He assists in Lord
Krishna's transcendental pastimes.

He is the source of the entire spiritual world and is the adi-guru, the
original spiritual master.

He assumes five other forms to serve Lord Krishna.

He Himself helps in the pastimes of Lord Krishna, and He does the work of
creation in four other forms called the catur-vyuha (four armed) forms known
as Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradyumna and Anirudha.

He executes the orders of Lord Krishna in the work of creation, and in the
form of Lord Sesa He serves Sri Krishna in various ways.

In all the forms He tastes the transcendental bliss of serving Krishna. No
one can approach Krishna without first getting the mercy of Baladeva.

Descent of Balarama
****************

Whenever Krishna appears in the material world, He is accompanied by His
associates and paraphernalia. Five thousand years ago when Krishna descended
into the material world, He was first preceded by Baladeva. Only after
Baladeva give His mercy did Krishna descend, such is the intimate
relationship between Krishna and Baladeva.

When Baladeva appeared as the seventh child in the womb of Devaki, she could
understand that this was a divine child and this made her all the more  read more »

Eka sloki Ramayanam and Bhagavatham

Dear All,

The following are the ekasloki ramayanam and eka sloki bhagavatham,

reciting this one sloka of ramayanam is equal to that of reciting 24,000 verses of valmiki ramayan and reciting eka sloki bhagavatham is eual to reciting 18,000 verses in sreemadbhagavatham.

Eka shlOkee raamaayaNaM

adouraama tapOvanaadigamanaM, hRutvaamRugaMkaaMcanaM,
vaidEhiharaNaM, jaTaayumaraNaM, sugreevasaMbhaaShaNaM,
vaalI nigrahaNaM, samudrataraNaM, laMkaapurIdahanaM.
pashyaadraavaNa-kuMbhakarNahananaM, hyEtyaddi raamaayaNaM.

Eka shlOkee bhaagavataM

adou dEvakIdEvi garbhajananaM, gOpIgRuhEvardhanaM,
maayaapootana jeevitaapaharaNaM, gOvardhanOddaaraNaM,
kaMsaccEdana kouravaadi hananaM, kuMti sutaapaalanaM,
hyEtadbhaagavataM, puraaNakathitaM, shree kRuShNaleelaamRutaM.

since, in this age of kali, people will not have enough time to recite the entire epic, at least they should recite this ekasloki ramayana and bhagavatham atleat once in a day, so that it will clear all our sins, and make us fit for devotional service

in the sercice of guru and gouranga
